Description
This course is organized by the CERSYRA Regional Institute for Agrifood and Forestry Research and Development of Castilla La Mancha (IRIAF) and is co-financed by the European FEDER Fund.
In this course you will learn to formulate and make solid and natural hygiene products, ranging from natural soap with different production methods, solid shampoos, dermo-cleaners and glycerin soaps.
You will also know the regulations on cosmetics in Spain and in Europe, both for manufacturing and for marketing. We will analyze the different options to undertake.
Syllabus
June 13, 2022
- Introduction to the formulation of solid soaps.
- Ingredients commonly used in formulations: oils, fats, butter, chemicals, dyes, etc.
- Active ingredients and their potential benefits.
- Saponification processes: cold, hot, recast, recycling and glycerin.
- Variables to control during the saponification process: temperature, pH, humidity.
- Equipment used in the production of soaps, instructions for use and good practices (pHmeter, scales, pipettes, etc.)
- Saponification calculations. Formulation concepts and practices.
- Introduction to soap decoration techniques: swirl , marbled, one pot wonder , crackled, and others.
- Practice: calculation and formulation of a practice soap.
- Calibration practice and use of the pH meter.
- Practice: use of laboratory balances.
- Practice of making a natural cold saponification soap (decoration techniques chosen by each participant).

- Common problems in saponification, and possible solutions.
- Production records.
- Introduction to good manufacturing practices.
- Surfactant-based cleaners, function and uses.
- Formulation of cleaners with surfactants, example: solid shampoo.
- Active principles commonly used in natural hygiene.
- Introduction to cosmetic microbiology, potential problems of natural ingredients.
- Practical formulation of a solid shampoo.
- Delving into good manufacturing practices.
- Practice: elaboration of glycerin soaps.
- Practice: preparation of solid shampoo.
June 15, 2022
- Introduction to cosmetic regulations in Spain and Europe.
- Requirements for the elaboration and commercialization of cosmetics.
- Questions and answers to concerns of the participants.
- Closure.
Until June 8, 2022. Maximum 16 or 20 students (depending on health situation). The applications will be presented in any Official Registry of the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla La Mancha.

The recipients of the Course/Workshop will be the people who carry out their activities or provide their services in the agricultural, food and forestry sectors, land managers and other economic agents that constitute SMEs, and whose scope of action is the agri-food and forestry environment, as well as all those people whose work is carried out or potentially can be carried out in said field.
